This week, our subject is Matt Murray of Team Blackout...
CG: After four games your squad is 3-1. After last season if you were told that you'd be 3-1 up to this point in the season how would you feel?
MM: Honestly Chris I would not be suprised and actually a little upset. We feel we are one of the elite teams in this league and we want to win every game.
CG: Where did all the new talent come from, QB Chris Chappelle and WR Rico Booker?
MM: Well we knew we had to get more playmakers on offense and a couple of people on the team played in highschool with Rico "Ghost" Booker and we knew what kind of playmaking ability he could give to our team. Chapelle worked with some guys on the team and bragged about how he was a "beast" in highschool. He suprised us all though with his arm and mobility and he is one of the main parts of our offense.
CG: Your squad fought hard but loss to Hard Knocks last week. Have you identified what cost you the game?
MM: I think we just had a couple bad breaks in the first half but we buckled down in the second half and our defense didn't allow a single point. I mean we only lost the game by 3 yards if one play during the course of the game went our way then Hard Knocks would not have pulled off that upset.
CG: Now this didn't cost Team Blackout the game but you called a questionable timeout with 2:15 left in the second half. At the time your team criticized that decision. Your defense played big and got a huge turnover with less than a minute to play. Without the luxury of that timeout you couldn't stop the clock to call a quality play. Do you regret calling that timeout? If you had that timeout do you believe your offense could've punched it in for the score?
MM: Yes. But honestly we should not have even been in that situation. Our first half miscues is what lost us that game. Yes. I think we would have at least been able to setup a play which would of given us a better chance then we had without the timeout
CG: Your defense allows on average 9.6 points a game. That is the second lowest in the league. Why are you guys shutting opposing offenses down?
MM: Well first of all our defensive line is very quick and physical and they put pressure on the QB on almost every play. The main key to our defense is our speed. You rarely see a receiver behind our corners and safties. Dan Hayes holds down the secondary and makes sure everyone is doing their job. You may see him yell at times but he keeps the defense motivated.
CG: The playoff format was announced this week. What will your team have to do to remain in the top four and finish just as strong as you've started?
MM: Play our Game. Period.
