CFFL Q & A WITH THE COACHES - 02/07/2007

This week, our subject is Dave Grome from Team Subpar, one of the fastest-improving teams in the league. Read on...

1) You may be the best two loss team in the league. What would you say to that?

I for sure can agree with that cause the first week is the only week we lost games and we did not have our D line and look what they're doing for us right now.

2) You faced two of the tougher teams in the division in week one. What would you have to do to change the results in a rematch against the Flag Munchers or the Tigers?

Well that was our first time playing together and not having our two starting rushers did not help. I can honestly say if we had our whole team we would have at least come out with one win that week. It pays to have depth.

3) You were one point away from being a one loss  team. Does the loss to the Tigers still sting?

Absolutely, well it stings but that safety we gave up did not help us at all in that one.

4) Why have you guys been rolling since week one?

We started playing as a team and we are finally clicking.

5) Right now you are on the outside looking into the playoffs. But if you get critical help from the Tigers and beat Curious George in your final game; you may play yourself into the tournament. What do you think about your chances?

I think our chances are slim however we need to look forward to these next two games and come out with a win and we will see what happens.

6) There isn't anything fun about being a bubble team. Where does your team need to be strengthened to ensure a playoff birth next season?

We need a little more depth and continually practicing a little better offensive scheme.

7) Your team is best when it completes the deep ball. Your QB, Russell Madden and WR Chris Ott have connected on deep balls routinely this year. Why do they seem to be in sync week after week?

7)I can honestly tell you I have no idea. (laughs) They have never played together but as long as they keep scoring points I'm not complaining. When you have a QB with a strong arm and a fast WR the deep ball comes easy.

8) Last game you guys rolled 70-16. Did you think your squad could score 70 points?

We scored in the sixties in other leagues, but this was complete team effort and it showed on the scoreboard. So I know for sure we could score 70.

9) How many seasons have you been coaching?

I have coached in other leagues but the first for this team.

10) Are you looking forward to your matchup against your non-divisional opponent the Bearcats?

Yes, I know we come in as huge under dogs but a match up with a team like them can only make us better.

11) If your team doesn't make the playoffs who do you think will represent your division in the
finals?

I'm gonna have to go with Curious George they're undefeated. HOWEVER they have to play us and were not gonna be a stepping stone.

12) What have you learned this season that will impact your team in the future?

Once again having a lot of depth and good schemes; with a lot of practice.
