FOURTH AND SHORT - by Kevin McCarty

Another day, another dollar. Let's kick this thing in the pants, shall we?

Games of the Week Results

8 on 8 Indoor
Flossin' vs. Lobos - Not quite the game I was hoping for. It was close early, but Flossin' just took over the game in the second half. Flossin' is like the Jekyl and Hyde of the CFFL. One week, they'll win by a landslide, and the next week they'll get spanked. It would be nice to see some consistency from this team; they've got potential.
Tri-State Falcons vs. Cowboys - The Falcons brought their usual horde of players, but the Cowboys countered with a large number of reserves themselves. Both sides were primed for this matchup, with the momentum switching back-and-forth throughout the game. In the end, the Cowboys held on for the 22-19 win. Great game to watch. I look forward to the rematch.

8 on 8 Outdoor
Cincy Tigers vs. Team Cincinnati / Vikings - I didn't get to watch this game, but from what I heard, it was an offensive showcase. Both teams were scoring at-will in a last-man-standing showdown. In the end, the Tigers came out on top, and in doing so, they clinched the South Conference championship, and their conference's #1 seed for the playoffs. Congratulations Tigers!
Patriots vs. Bengals - No contest, Patriots win 28-12. A good warm-up game for the Patriots heading into their final week showdown with the Cincy Tigers from the South Conference.

Standings
It's cruch time in the 8 on 8 outdoor league, and the 8 on 8 indoor league is starting to shake out. Focus this week is on the 8 on 8 outdoor, which is heading into the final week of the regular season. The South Conference championship has been decided, but the North Conference title is still up for grabs.
8 on 8 outdoor
North Conference
With their forfeit win over the Warriors this weekend, Rapid Fire moved to 2-0 in conference (5-1 overall), which puts them back in first place going into the final week. The Patriots won their non-conference game, leaving their record at 2-1(3-3), putting them in second place. In third place is Run 'n Gun at 1-1(3-3) coming off a lopsided victory over the Cowboys. The deciding game in this conference comes this weekend when Run 'n Gun plays Rapid Fire. The ball is in Rapid Fire's court. With a win, Rapid Fire will win the North Conference outright. However, if Run 'n Gun wins, that will leave 3 teams in the conference with 2-1 records, and the conference championship will come down to points. As of right now, Rapid Fire has a point differential of +17, Run 'n Gun is at 0 by virtue of not having played an actual in-conference game, and the Patriots are negative at -14. Thus, Run 'n Gun will have to beat Rapid Fire by at least 17 points to win the conference title.
South Conference
In the South Conference, the Tigers at 3-0(5-1) have clinched the conference crown, so the race now is for second place. Currently, Team Cincinnati / Vikings are in second place at 1-1(4-2) and the Cowboys are in third at 1-1(4-2). As luck would have it, the Vikings and Cowboys square off this weekend to see who gets the #2 seed from the South Conference.
OUTDOOR PLAYOFFS!
At the end of the regular season, there will be a single-elimination playoff for the 8 on 8 outdoor league championship. The top 3 teams from each conference will be invited to the playoffs. The seeding will be determined by each team's final conference standings. The #1 seed from each conference will receive a first-round bye.

8 on 8 indoor
This week we finally have an outright first place team. After defeating the Cowboys for the second time of the season in a thriller, the 5 Stars are in first place at 3-0. The 5 Stars are now the only undefeated team in the league, and will surely have a target on their back each time they take the field. In second place are the Falcons (2-1), coming off their first defeat of the season at the hands of the Cowboys. In third place is Flossin (2-1), followed by the Cowboys (1-2) in fourth, the Lobos (1-2) in fifth and the Titans (0-3) in sixth. It will be interesting to see how the top of this field shifts in the coming weeks.

CXFFL 4 on 4
The 5 Stars continue their domination of the 4 on 4 league, where they are 8-0 this season, and are on a 20 game winning streak (in 4 on 4) which started in the winter 4 on 4 season where they went 12-0 in route to the league title. If any other team wants to win this league, they had better start doing something about it immediately. With that being said, the team that looks most likely to have a shot at the 5 Stars is the Replacements. In second place at 8-2, the Replacements are within striking distance, but just barely. The third place Cowboys also still have a shot, but like the Replacements, they need the 5 Stars to have a complete meltdown in the final to weeks to have a shot.

SPECIAL SECTION - GUEST REPORTER
John Miller from the Replacements has been gracious enough to give us a little commentary on the 4 on 4 game, to make up for my lack of coverage of the league. Take it away, John!

Game of the Week this Past Week
Replacements - 19 - Spiders - 13
Spiders tie up the game at thirteen with forty-five seconds to play. The Replacements run two quick out plays out of bounds to stop the clock and then score on a long pass to take the lead (failed conversion - - my fault) with twelve seconds remaining. The Spiders last second hail mary attempt is knocked down to secure the Replacements' victory.

Games of the Week this Week
Five Stars vs. Cowboys - 7:30 PM
The two top teams from the winter indoor (4 on 4) season will due battle. Five Stars have the Cowboys number though, but haven't been playing like themselves the last couple of weeks.
Spiders vs. Cowboys - 7:00 PM
An up and coming team, Spiders, takes on a proven scoring machine in this one. The Cowboys have taken it to the Spiders in their previous meetings this season, but the Spiders aren't the same team that they were at the beginning of the season.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Games of the Week
8 on 8 Outdoor
Rapid Fire vs. Run 'n Gun - 11:00 AM - North Conference Championship - As I wrote earlier, there's a chance for either of these teams to take the North Conference championship. With a #1 seed and a first-round bye in the playoffs on the line, look for a very intense battle between these two teams. Who wants it more? We're about to find out.
Cowboys vs. Team Cincinnati / Vikings - 10:00 AM - Fight for second place in the South Conference. Both of these teams are athletic and hard-hitting, and I'm sure they'll both leave it all out on the field.
8 on 8 Indoor
Cowboys vs. Flossin' - 7:00 PM - The consistent Cowboys vs. the up-and-down Flossin'. Outcome of this game depends on which Flossin' team shows up.

Website of the Week
I'm going outside the CFFL for this week's website. This week, the honor goes to Saz's Football from Milwaukee (http://www.sazsfootball.com)

In a final parting note, I would like to commend the proprietors of Wall 2 Wall Soccer for installing such a soft playing surface. After taking a shot from a Cowboy rusher that rolled me up like an overstuffed burrito, I couldn't help but notice how comfortable I was while lying there. Thanks guys!

Enjoy the rain this week! Until next time, keep your flags on!
